If we fancy popping out for a coffee and a slice of cake we head over to Hasle and the Cafe Emajoka.
It has 2 outdoor terraces both overlooking the small fishing harbour and you can drink your coffee while watching the boats come and go.
Inside there’s plenty of seating in a nicely decorated and cosy interior.
They sell tea and coffee, locally brewed beers and have a nice selection of homemade cakes.
They also sell beef burgers and the like.

Trotting – Bornholms national sport
The trotting track is open again for the season and if you are on the island tomorrow you can grab a seat for the action.
Visit the racecourse on the island and have a wonderful vacation experience for the whole family, which You will always remember. Here is sport, fun and excitement. Trotting is the most popular sport on the island. Trotting on Bornholm is pure pleasure for body and soul.
On the course You can bet on the horses – both for the local races, but also all other races in Denmark and Sweden. It is a great chance to win some extra money for the rest of Your vacation. For the more unexperienced we recommend a so-called “lyn-bon”, where the machine picks out the horses for You.

Looking for something to do on Bornholm? Well a visit to the art gallery may well fit the bill.
The Bornholm Art Museum (Bornholms Kunstmuseum) is situated on the Danish island of Bornholm, above the Sanctuary Rocks (Helligdomsklipperne) about 6 kilometres north-west of Gudhjem. The building was constructed in 1993 and enlarged in 2003. The museum’s permanent collection consists principally of paintings by artists with connections to Bornholm from the early 19th century to the present day. Special attention is given to the Bornholm school of painters which emerged at the beginning of the last century when a number of modernists, attracted to picturesque Bornholm and the tiny island of Christiansø, painted landscapes and local nature.
The permanent exhibition includes works by Edvard Weie, Karl Isakson, Olaf Rude, Kræsten Iversen, Niels Lergaard and Oluf Høst.
In addition, numerous paintings and works of sculpture present a rich picture of artistic life on Bornholm.
Covering an area of some 4,000 square meters, the museum itself is an impressive architectural achievement. Designed by architects Johan Fogh and Per Følner, it is divided into three levels as the ground the slopes down towards the sea. The galleries are situated on either side of a kind of street where water trickles down from the age-old Helligdomskilde healing spring.

Advent calendars are called Christmas calendars in Denmark. Unlike the chocolate calendars found in other countries, Danish Christmas calendars contain 24 small gifts for children, or grown-ups that like to treat each other! For a different kind of calendar, tune in to Danish TV in December. The main TV stations broadcast their own Christmas Calendars, with 24 short episodes. Danish children watch eagerly every day and the excitement builds for the big night itself; 24 December!
Another Danish tradition in the lead up to Christmas is the calendar candle. The candle is marked with 24 lines and decorated with fir tree motives and dancing, red-cheeked pixies! The daily lighting of the candle tends to be a special time shared by the family at the start of the day. It's the children's job to blow out the candle exactly at the line-mark, ready for the next day!
Danish Christmas starts when the Advent wreath is brought out. One of the wreath's four candles is lit every Sunday in December. Traditionally the Advent wreath is made out of fine spruce cuttings, decorated with red berries and cones and white candles. There are red ribbons for attaching the wreath to the ceiling.
Don`t miss out on this great artist. Bente Hammer (born 1950) is a Danish textile artist and fashion designer. She moved to the island of Bornholm in 1987 where she opened a workshop and boutique in an old smithy in the willage Nyker In 2011, she opened a second store in Svaneke together with the jewellery designer Nina Schrøder.
She is said to make "one-of-a-kind clothing made of handprinted textiles". She uses a wealth of different materials in her works and has created many colorful printed fabrics. A kimono designed by Hammer was presented to Queen Margrethe on the occasion of her 70th birthday by Bornholm Regional Municipality. In October 2012, Hammer who is a member of ACAB Arts and Crafts Bornholm was, together with the association's president, Maibritt Jønsson, selected to represent the island of Bornholm at a conference on creative design in eastern Iceland with a view to inspiring local craftsmen in their work. In Denmark, we consider Blue Fluted Plain part of our cultural heritage and something we all have a connection to in one way or another. Passed down from generation to generation, pieces of Blue Fluted Plain can be found in many Danish homes.

It has been present in Danish streets and lanes for more than 25 years and has earned its well deserved icon status. The design is simple and robust and has proven its durability through many years of daily transport of shopping bags and children. The bicycle is a beautiful example of design that springs from a simple, good idea that stays viable due to function and charm. It has inspired other manufacturers’ and designers’ development and innovation efforts and can practically be seen as the ancestress of new generations of bicycles. Christiania Bikes is still manufactured in Denmark, but it also makes an appearance in cities around Europe, where it helps to boost the tradition for cycling and to highlight a convenient, green and innovative mode of transpotation. When you are seven months pregnant, a little help in transporting three children helps says Terri Galappathie… You can read more here: www.christianiabikes.com/en/
The last few years Carl Quist Moller, Louise Norbye and Halfdan E have toured around the country with their album "Everyday Poetry for Children", and visited everything from special schools and institutions to schools, libraries and cultural centers. In the autumn holiday this year we go to Bornholm! Da Boeing has with their lyrics (which are based on children's everyday situations and contains funny rhymes, play with sayings, morals and small and large everyday problems) won great enthusiasm both in young children and in children between 8 and 11 years. Many will recognize Carl Quist Moller from, among others "Lying neck" and Halfdan E from TV's children's program "screamer". For more info: bit.ly/1RDZh0T
