The last few years Carl Quist Moller, Louise Norbye and Halfdan E have toured around the country with their album "Everyday Poetry for Children", and visited everything from special schools and institutions to schools, libraries and cultural centers. In the autumn holiday this year we go to Bornholm! Da Boeing has with their lyrics (which are based on children's everyday situations and contains funny rhymes, play with sayings, morals and small and large everyday problems) won great enthusiasm both in young children and in children between 8 and 11 years. Many will recognize Carl Quist Moller from, among others "Lying neck" and Halfdan E from TV's children's program "screamer". For more info: bit.ly/1RDZh0T
The island of Bornholm in Denmark is actress Birgitte Hjort Sorenson's personal paradise. Michael Booth visits this Baltic haven to savour its tranquil charms. Another great article from telegraph about our lovely little island. You can read it here: bit.ly/1Lhnzgj
Svaneke is the island’s (and Denmark’s) most-easterly town and is slightly less touristy, or at least more upmarket, than Gudhjem. It has handsome old merchants’ houses in the harbour and narrow alleys of half-timbered houses leading down from the town square. It also has Svaneke Bodega, one of the island’s best pubs, which even early in the season, was lively with locals and tourists. It serves beers from the town’s tiny brewery, Svaneke Bryghus, which include an excellent stout and brown ale. The town is also home to Svaneke Bolcher, where you can watch traditional Danish sweets being made, and Johan Bülow’s inventive liquorice, which is now sold in shops such as Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Mason.
Located at the entrance to Bryghuset in Svaneke, is one of Bornholm’s top chocolatiers. Freshly made on the premises, the seductive concoctions include a white chocolate, coconut and lime truffle, as well as a very Bornholm stout øl (stout beer) truffle. We dare you to resist! #WhatsOnBornholm#Svaneke #svanekechokoladeri#chocolate
Grains and flour from Bornholm Several grains are grown on Bornholm. Thanks to the island’s warm climate and many hours of sunshine you can grow grains that would not normally grow in Danish fields.
Valsemøllen mill The Valsemøllen mill by Aakirkeby is a Dutch windmill built in 1867. The mill grinds good corn from Bornholm fields, which is then milled on slow-moving hammer stools with a large hammer length that prevents the flour from heating and gluten structures from becoming damaged. The Valsemøllen mill produces wheat flour, rye, spelt and durum – also organically.
Pasta from Bornholm Outside Svaneke farming couple Finn and Susanne made their dreams come true by creating Bornholm pasta. Finn proved that durum wheat could be successfully grown and harvested on Bornholm’s warm fields and the couple currently produce both fresh and dry quality pasta made from the fine Bornholm durum wheat together with delicious pasta-pesto.
